Capital Campaign Vision

Mr. Timothy Leventry, Esquire

Our region has decided that WindberCare should be independent. That we - not some remote health system - should determine what services are needed within our community. We have decided that Windber Medical Center will belong to us, networked with leading healthcare alliances but accountable to the very people it serves, just as it was for its first 70 years. We are taking steps to ensure that our healthcare community will continue to provide that very special care we have cherished for more than a century. It's a healthcare and governance tradition that has served us very well, a tradition of self-reliance.

The Windber Medical Center tradition also is filled with people like Dr. W. G. Wheeling, Dr. John A. Orris, Dr. Earl Shope, and programs like the Windber School of Nursing, Windber Hospice, the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center, and now WindberPlace. We call our healthcare community WindberCare - a name that stands for excellence in clinical standards, complementary therapies, and promotion of healthy lifestyles. It's a name that means innovation, best practices wherever they can be found, and the caring tradition we expect of the healthcare institution that has always carried the name of Windber.

Named one of the "Most Innovative Acute Care Hospitals - 2007" by FierceHealthcare. Honored with the National 2007 Distinguished Service Award from the Medical Fitness Association for its HealthStyles Wellness Center.

Windber Medical Center has also been formally designated by Planetree, Inc. as a “Designated Planetree Patient-Centered Hospital.” This designation recognizes WMC’s achievement and innovation in fostering a culture within the hospital in which providers partner with patients and families, and where patient comfort, dignity, empowerment and well-being are prioritized with providing top-quality clinical care.

Windber Medical Center has been a Planetree Hospital since 1998 and is the only Planetree Hospital in the state of Pennsylvania. With the hospital's designation status in 2009, it has become one of only ten hospitals in the world to be recognized as a Designated Planetree Patient-Centered Hospital.

Windber Medical Center continues its Capital Campaign Fund drive to expand the emergency service department and the obstetrics department. Windber has received an overflow of patients needing and requesting their services. We want to be able to accommodate the patients that choose Windber; therefore the campaign will be ongoing until our goal is reached.
