Status Emergency Room / Ob-Gyn Expansion

Dear Friend,

It has been several months since we last updated you regarding Windber Medical Center's expansion project.  Our efforts to move forward with construction, much like every other building project in healthcare today, have been moving forward with appropriate caution due to the economic down turn that we as a nation and world have lived throughout this year.

Although most hospitals are experiencing some financial challenges during this time including Windber, Windber has remained committed to its mission and determination to impact the way healthcare is delivered and to complete our emergency room project.  To date, the following steps have been taken to move the project forward:

  •  We have secured property valued at over one million dollars.
  • Environmental impact studies have been completed.
  • An historical significance study has been undertaken to ensure that the project falls within the parameters of the Windber Historic Designation. This is a required study.
  • Design plans have been drafted.
  • The Windber Healthcare Foundation has secured an additional grant for $250,000 to assist with the overall fundraising effort.

Windber Medical Center also has some exciting news we would like to share with you. Windber Medical Center has been named a Designated Planetree Hospital. The significance of this honor is that there are only ten designated Planetree hospitals in the world, of the more than 150 hospitals within the Planetree group, that have achieved this recognition, a label that signifies superior quality in patient centered care.  The implications of this tribute have already resulted in recognition in not only the United States but other countries around the globe. The enclosed letter represents the proclamation received from Governor Rendell for our excellence in patient-centered care.

Although we still have progress to be made before our expansion project becomes a reality, we are looking forward to your continued support and hope that you understand that without you and your generosity, none of this could happen. 

As Herbert Hoover once said, "About the time we can make the ends meet, somebody moves the ends."   Watch us as we continue, through your help and support, to move toward those ends!
