Recognizing Friends of Hospice
The Windber Palliative Care Foundation will honor its donors on Thursday, November 19th with a Recognizing Friends of Windber Hospice gathering at WindberPlace from 6-8pm. “The motto for National Hospice 2009 is ‘Hope, Dignity, Love – it must be hospice’,” says Frankie Bock, Windber Hospice Volunteer Coordinator. “These donors, our staff and volunteers help us provide hope, dignity and love to our patients and their families.” During the event, donors will be recognized for their loyal support to Windber Hospice.
Windber Hospice is a program that promotes the Hospice philosophy of care and makes services available to all persons in Cambria, Somerset, Bedford, and parts of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties. The program, developed in 1977, was the first rural Hospice Program in Pennsylvania. In 1981, the Palliative Care Unit was opened at Windber Hospital to provide inpatient services. Although the main emphasis is on home care, this unique setting allows patients home-like comfort during necessary hospitalizations. In 1990, Windber Hospice joined forces with the Laurel Highlands Cancer Program, providing care to patients throughout the five-county area described above. Seldom has an institution of such modest size offered such diverse, high-quality care or drawn such attention. WindberCare has facilities and services you just can’t find in other community hospitals of its size elsewhere in America. WindberCare’s legacy of innovative and qualitative patient-care has been made possible by far-sighted leadership, the dedicated support and hard work of exceptional employees, resolute regional leaders, loyal patients and their families.
