In the past, the practice of medicine offered little for those who were beyond it's help. Yet even if one is dying, one is not dead. There is still care to be given. It is just the focus and aim of the care that adjusts accordingly.
The focus of Hospice Care is to offer the highest possible quality of life to the terminally ill and to their families. Windber Hospice provides symptom and pain control for the patient and emotional and spiritual support for patients and their families. Hospice provides something precious to them: COMFORT.

... for the families of the dying. When the burden of caring for a dying loved one becomes too much, or special care is needed, Windber Hospice offers a short term stays in our homelike, in-patient palliative care unit.
The Comfort of Knowing
... We fear what we do not know. As death nears, knowing what to expect and having a hospice volunteer there to lend comfort eases the passing of a loved one.
